Adopt Katie a White New Zealand rabbit in San Diego, CA (39748289)

Location:
San Diego, CA
Description:

Pellets: 1/2 Tablespoon Oxbow Essentials Adult Rabbit Food (AM)Hay: Unlimited mixed hay (All day)Salad: 1 cup spring mix, parsley, cilantro, romaine lettuce (PM) Meet Katie, the fun-loving and lovable girl who is desperately seeking her forever home. Katie was transferred to us from The Department of Animal Services in March of 2023, and she's been a shelter favorite ever since! This beautiful New Zealand girl with sparkling ruby eyes is eager to shower her new family with affection. Though she may be a little nervous around new people, once she gets to know you, she'll be vying for your affection non-stop. It's important to note that Katie may nip or bite to communicate, especially when feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated. However, with patience and understanding, she quickly learns to trust and express herself in more gentle ways. Katie may initially run and hide when feeling nervous or spooked, but she quickly regains her confidence if it means more attention from her beloved humans. What Katie desires most of all is a loving home where she can feel safe, secure, and cherished every day. Are you ready to welcome this affectionate sweetheart into your heart and home? Katie can't wait to become your loyal companion and bring endless joy and love into your life! Medical History: Our vets believes Katie to be older, at least 5 years old and should receive annual bloodwork in addition to her annual vaccines. Katie is also mildly overweight with pododermatitis, which will resolve as she loses weight. Katie is on reduced pellets until she reaches her goal weight of 2.8kg. Upon routine x-rays, vets found that Katie has an enlarged heart and arrythmia. She is currently on twice daily heart medication (oral), which she loves to take. Spayed, date unknown. Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious and deadly disease caused by a calicivirus that affects both wild and domestic rabbits. It is not contagious to people or other animals. For the first time, the virus is causing deaths in rabbits and hares native to North America and is spreading rapidly. UPDATE: In May 2021, California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has confirmed new cases of RHDV in rabbits in Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura County. In addition to detection of RHDV2 in wild cottontail rabbits and jackrabbits, RHDV2 has been confirmed in domestic rabbits on 50 premises, including a detection in a feral domestic rabbit.
